St. Vincent de PaulThe St. Mary’s Basilica Conference – Who we are and what we do.

St Vincent de Paul of Phoenix is a local charity that has been serving the poor of Phoenix by providing food, shelter, healthcare and many other services since 1946. The St. Mary’s Basilica Conference has been operating and carrying out the work of St. Vincent de Paul in downtown Phoenix and the surrounding neighborhoods since 1949. In fact, the St. Mary’s Basilica Conference was the first conference formed in Phoenix.

VolunteersEach Saturday morning, throughout the entire year, a group of dedicated volunteers prepare and deliver 60 to 80 boxes of food for families and all in need. Without our help, most would go hungry. We also provide those that we serve with other forms of assistance such as rent, utility payments, transportation, clothing or other basic necessities.

Our volunteers also provide a friendly face, a caring voice or a smile to those who may not have contact with any other person. For some, the mere presence of a St. Vincent de Paul volunteer at the door is a welcomed sight. We can’t begin to tell you how rewarding an experience it is to see the faces of those we care for and the words of gratitude that we receive.

volunteersYour donations of food or cash will be greatly appreciated by all of our volunteers; but, more importantly, by those who are in need of our help.

TVolunteershere are two ways that you can support their efforts. One is by bringing a bag of non- perishable food items to the church on Saturday or Sundays. Second, you can make a tax deductible donation. You may mail your gifts to SVDP in care of St. Mary's Basilica at 231 North Third Street Phoenix AZ 85004 or through an online donation. Simply click the DONATE button to St. Mary's Button below and your gift will go directly to SVDP Conference at St. Mary's.

Arizona Charitable Tax Credit Program for the Working Poor

For helping the poor, you deserve some credit – including a tax credit!

The ARIZONA CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT allows you to receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit, up to $400 if you file a joint return, on your Arizona state income tax when you give to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. For those filing a single tax return, the tax credit is up to $200. This means your dollars can benefit the working poor, whom St. Vincent de Paul serves, yet it won’t come out of your pocket! And you’ll receive the added satisfaction of knowing you’re helping others. Your gift to St. Vincent de Paul also qualifies as a charitable deduction on your federal return if you itemize.

A tax credit reduces your final tax liability. It comes right off the top of your state tax bill, lowering the amount of money you will pay. So although your charitable contributions increase, your tax liability is decreased by the same amount - up to $400.

There is a simple form (AZ Form 321) that you must complete and include with your state tax filing in order to receive that tax credit. This form is available from your tax preparer or at www.azdor.gov

The ARIZONA CHARITABLE TAX CREDIT is different from those you can receive for private school tuition and public school extra-curricular activities. You are eligible to receive dollar-for-dollar tax credits for all three.

Consult a tax advisor about your specific situation. For more information on the tax credit, visit the Arizona Department of Revenue website or call 602-255-3381.

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, a ceremony was held at the St. Vincent de Paul Hall of Banners to commemorate the lowering of the St. Mary's Basilica Conference Banner. Our Conference was formed in 1946 and was the first St. Vincent de Paul Conference in the State of Arizona. Conference members participated in the ceremony. The Hall of Banners will be renovated over the next few months and in April our conference banner along with all the other statewide conferences will be raised.

On November 18th students and faculty from Notre Dame Preparatory School in Scottsdale participated in their 1st Annual Turkey Trot Day. To participate each student was required to donate at least five non-perishable or canned food items. Our Conference was selected to be the recipient of this event. A total of 5000 food items were donated. This is the highest donation ever received by our Conference and will go a long way to help us feed those in need.

We wish to thank Sister Yolanda, Coach Gianni and Mrs. Gjerstad of the Theology Department.
